Help Us Bring Hope, Nourishment, and Opportunity to Special Learners in Kenya
In 2021, Jean traveled to Kenya on a mission trip with Open Word Ministries. While there, she met a group of children who forever changed her heart.
These children are known as “special learners”—students with disabilities who attend The Lumino School's Special Unit under the care of dedicated teacher Walter Likuyani. Jean quickly discovered that many of these children faced overwhelming challenges. Beyond their disabilities, they lived in extreme poverty and often lacked basic necessities such as food, clothing, shoes, and school supplies.
One of the first needs Walter shared was a sewing machine to provide vocational training and practical life skills for students. Through the generosity of supporters, God provided abundantly. In April 2022, not one but two sewing machines were purchased and delivered to the school.
But an even greater need soon emerged.
We learned that many of these children were coming to school hungry. Unlike other students, they often did not have access to a reliable lunch program. Many come from families struggling with poverty, and some have experienced neglect because of cultural stigmas surrounding disability.
Walter explained that while other students contribute food and fees for school meals, most special learners cannot. As a result, their feeding program was inconsistent and often nonexistent.
Imagine trying to learn, grow, and thrive while wondering where your next meal will come from.
We knew something had to change.
In response, Imago Ministries was established to provide lasting support for these precious children. After receiving 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, we sent our first international wire transfer in September 2023, launching a consistent lunch program for the Special Unit.
Today, students receive a nutritious meal of rice and green grams (lentils) at school. Attendance has increased because families know their children will receive food each day. What may seem like a simple lunch has become a powerful source of hope, health, and encouragement.
Our ministry has also expanded to reach special-needs learners living in remote rural areas who are unable to attend school. Walter regularly visits these children and their families, providing educational support, counseling, encouragement, and practical assistance. He helps families embrace and care for their children, assists with obtaining wheelchairs, hearing aids, and other assistive devices, and provides food and supplies when urgent needs arise.
Every month, your support helps:
• Provide nutritious lunches for special learners at The Lumino School
• Pay the cook who prepares daily meals
• Support home visits to rural learners and their families
• Supply emergency food and essential resources
• Assist with wheelchairs, hearing aids, and other adaptive equipment
• Restore dignity, hope, and opportunity to children who are often overlooked
The impact of your gift is immediate and tangible:
$13 feeds one student for an entire month.
$50 supports the home visit program, helping Walter reach rural learners and their families with education, encouragement, counseling, and practical assistance.
These children are not forgotten by God, and with your partnership, they will not be forgotten by us.
Will you consider making a gift today?
Whether you provide a month of meals for one child, support a family through the home visit program, or make a larger contribution, your generosity directly impacts the lives of children with disabilities in Kenya.
Together, we can ensure that these students receive nourishment, education, encouragement, and the opportunity to reach their God-given potential.
Thank you for partnering with us in this life-changing work. We believe God will continue to do exceedingly more than we can ask or imagine as we serve these children together.
With gratitude,
Imago Ministries

The Special Learners
These are pictures of the special learners and the people actively involved in their education. Walter Likyani is our boots on the ground helping to find out the needs and getting them to the where they need to be. Josephine makes sure the meals are prepared and given to the special learners.
